Amy’s Song Notes
If you’ve taken the musical journey across all twelve tracks from the home page, then you’ve seen and heard my producer’s side of the story. I’d like to add a few personal notes about the songs of “Vocalessence”…
In A Heartbeat
The lyrics to this song come from the depth of my cousin Nancy’s portfolio. Unbeknownst to me, Nancy wrote this song years ago with the intention of it one day being played for her daughter’s wedding. As I looked closer, I realized this song can be from a lover to a lover, a mother to her child, a friend to a friend, or from God to you and me.
When trying to come up with a name for this album, “Vocalessence” best reflected the aspect of painting with the voice. The song was created to celebrate the voice and see how many vocal parts could be brought together with style and pizzazz!
The first lines of this song come from my dad who has this endearing pastime of writing priceless “Roses are Red, Violets are Blue” poems to our family. When I think of my parents and the amazing love they share, I can only imagine how, through each other, love has shaped and changed the way they view the world and all its beauty. It must feel weightless and free – kind of like floating.
Puttin’ My Foot Down
Puttin’ My Foot Down was definitely a fun way to tell the world that shoes are the absolute self-indulgence (so, I’m a little obsessed). Hope you enjoy the humor of a shoe fanatic. I love being such a girl!
I wrote child in remembrance of each stage of my life so far, and I realize I cannot and will not ever let go of my childhood, my youth. Instead I’ll use it to begin every new chapter in my life and appreciate how it can help me prepare for whatever may come.
I Can’t Wait
I got a kick out of I Can’t Wait. It’s full of vitality, animation, and spirit—not to mention the sassy attitude that I can’t help but feel when I sing it. Everyone should be confident in knowing they are exceptional, unique, and deserving—don’t settle until you find someone that knows you’re first rate!
Day After Day
Day After Day holds a special place in my heart as it’s the first original song I ever recorded. The process was truly one of co-creation and the result of the interweaving tapestry of background vocals and instruments set the standard for the rest of this album. I believe my cousin Nancy was blessed when she wrote the lyrics, and I hope that blessing reaches those who realize the meaning behind it.
I had to express my Italian roots somewhere on this album and what better way than That’s Amore? This version still evokes shades of the 50’s era but adds a little kick! Be sure to sing along in the second round. It’s hard not to smile and sing when you hear this one!
A song for you to just sit back, relax with a glass of iced-tea, and, with a smile on your face, daydream about love. My producer wrote this song for me–absolutely one of my favorites!
Just Look Up
My life would be so meaningless without being able to just look up with a hope and faith in God that life can be beautiful and promising. We cannot let the obstacles that bring discouragement win out over inner peace and the assurance that the best is yet to come!
We Need More
This was written only months before the events that occurred on September 11th. Little did we know the significance the song would impart. I am honored to have been given the opportunity to express this message to you and hope it will in some way make a difference.
In My Life
I close the album with this song and acknowledge all of the people, places and moments I’ve been blessed to have in my life so far. They will stay with me forever.
